Review of The Expendables (2000) by Peter P — 12 Jul 2013
I know, I know, 4 stars for a stupid action movie, with Stallone, Statham, Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren no less, but hear me out. I am judging The Expendables for what it is trying to do, and how well it does it, and in that, it is a 5 star movie, heck, I would give it 6 stars if I could, but this thing only goes up to 5, so 5 it is.
As for the film itself, it has an insane amount of cool action, pretty good acting and a decent story, then throw in the loudest shotgun you have ever heard (if you have seen the movie you know what I am talking about, me and my friends couldn't stop laughing every time Terry Crews fired it) and you got yourself a movie.
It also has a fair amount of humor throughout, from mocking ARNOLD'S political aspirations, and Randy Couture being overly sensitive about his mangled ears, to having Jet Li make fun of how short he is, and then there is the whole hanging a pirate thing, so yeah, it is funny.
Is this high cinema, nope, is it a cool action movie with an huge cast, yep, and thus the plethora of stars I am awarding it, so sit back and watch the booms, and maybe bring some ear plugs, cause man is that gun loud.
