Review of The Expendables 2 (2012) by Jon P — 06 Dec 2013
Turning to action junkie Simon West for direction, Stallone & Co's explosive action sequel aims to turn the star-studded premise of its predecessor into more than just a gimmick movie. Painful puns and old movie quips make up much of the script and the characterisation is abysmal but, this time around, the actors do actually have the remnants of a plot to play around with, albeit one riddled in MacGuffins and go-nowhere Chuck Norris cameos.
Slick fight sequences and cool stunts make for a fair bit of fun but, in all, the franchise remains mindless garbage and you're likely to wind up smiling almost entirely for the wrong reasons. Go pick up an old copy of Rambo.
