Forget the first sequel - this is the true followup to The Exorcist. Written and directed by the author of the original novel, this movie is incredibly suspenseful and entertaining, with some great performances.
There are moments towards the end where postproduction tinkering is evident, but overall this movie is great for anyone who recognizes that a film can be frightening without being gory.
