Review of The Exorcist (1973) by Mrpajamas — 04 Jul 2021

The Exorcist of the Devil starts off a bit odd for a horror movie, but it also caught my attention because of it. After about ten minutes or so, we find ourselves in a small town where all these things start happening.

Personally, I enjoyed the movie, but not everyone will probably be satisfied because the pacing is slower and not much happens in the first hour or so. But in the second half of the film, things pick up quite a bit and the little girl Regan starts to change beyond recognition.

There is one mystery attached to this though, and that is that I honestly never found out how the demon possession happened in the whole movie. Honestly though, I didn't mind it too much and enjoyed the scenes with Regan ruthlessly screaming and swearing at everyone.

Pretty breathtaking for me. Add to that the soundtrack, which hardly plays here, but when it does, it's a blast. I was satisfied, but I would add something else. I watched the movie with a bunch of my buddies who were disappointed to the point of disgust at the finale, saying it was crap and not a horror movie and they weren't worried at all.

Let me put it this way. I can't really put my finger on that. Personally, I've probably never been scared at a horror movie. That's why I don't even like horror movies, because the fear spell just doesn't work on me.

Still, I liked the movie. Maybe it's because I'm just a fan of old movies or maybe it's just that some of the scenes where Regan screams were almost slightly ridiculous and that's how the movie appealed to me.

To sum it all up. If you're looking for a horror movie where you want to be scared, this ASI is not for you. I'm probably highlighting this because I really don't know. I'm only judging by the opinion of my friends who found the movie boring and let's say non-horror.

But I speak for myself here and I enjoyed the film and for me it is a great horror film that I recommend.
