Review of The Exorcist (1973) by Mahmus — 25 Sep 2020
There's a real sense of desperation to this movie. The stress and anxiety caused by not knowing what's wrong with Reagan.
The doctors don't know. The priest thinks an exorcism could be dangerous. But we've gone the entire movie in the shoes of her poor mother and by the end, if an exorcism is the only option left, it has to be done.
There's a lot of tragedy in this movie. It's very depressing. And that's what makes its final exorcism sequence so scary.
It slowly makes us weak and vulnerable before hitting us in the face with a horror show unlike any other.
