Review of The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) by Francesca H — 26 Dec 2009
This rather long winded but in parts dramatic film is best enjoyed for the skillful acting of 'possessed' Emily Rose (played by Jennifer Carpenter of 'Dexter' fame). The story is loosely based on a true story wihch combines great examples of psychosis, epilepsy and group hysteria.
The exorcist priest in the true story was found guilty of manslaughter by neglect for encouraging the subject to turn her back on medical treatment for her 'possession'. A fun watch for sceptics and a scarey enough watch for supernatural fans.
The courtroom scenes go on a bit and there is little suspense. I learned that human beings have two sets of vocal chords (aka true and false vocal chords). This might debunk many possession stories. Worth watching if you like this sort of thing.
I'm being generous and giving it 3 stars.
