Review of The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) by Wes S — 10 Jul 2011

This story starts at the end with an exorcism gone wrong resulting in the death of Emily Rose (Jennifer Carpenter). With the arrest of the priest in charge of the exorcism Father Richard Moore (Tom Wilkinson) this story works backwards telling the story of Emily Rose. In a blend of court room drama and supernatural thriller, this is a good movie with plenty of chilling scenes showing the possessed Emily Rose by a host of demons. But the prosecution has a different take on the events, believing that Emily Rose died of an epileptic seizure that could have been prevented with medical intervention they charge Father Moore with criminal negligence.

Jennifer Carpenter stole the show in this movie with her chilling performances of the possessed Emily Rose. This is not an all out supernatural thriller like the Exorcist, and it is a bit preachy so if your put off by religious movies or courtroom drama's then I'd say pass on this one...but personally this is one of my favorites.
