Review of The Evil Dead (1982) by Andy P — 15 Feb 2014
Raimi took the gore of Italian horror movies and mixed it with a proudly juvenile sense of humour, making the the heroes of the movie so vapidly wholesome that we cannot wait until hell unleashed upon them, (This kind of self-consciousness in horror movies went on to dominate the genre).
Flagrantly amateurish in many of its effects but powered by a full on soundtrack and rapid point of view shots, The Evil Dead is a deserved classic.
