Review of Hoosiers (1986) by Andy P — 25 Mar 2017
From the opening scenes where we see Hackman's character drive through rural Indiana to get to the small town of Hickory... we realize that the film we are about to watch is, like all great sport movies, about more than just the game.
"Hoosiers" while reliant on the tried and true formula of most sports films is able to capture a greater sense of community between the characters... which makes Hackman's performance all the more impressive.
As an outsider he plays the part of our eyes into the lives of the people who live in Hickory, and as he slowly becomes member of the town we feel the same way. A truly triumphant film!
