Review of The Evil Dead (1981) by Melted S — 02 May 2017
Sam Raimi's running loose on a low budget, fueled by directorial creativity and a love for meat-and-potatoes horror. To his credit "The Evil Dead" can get pretty creepy or even full-on scary - and Bruce Campbell is in fact pretty good when Ash takes more of a central role towards the end.
Still, Raimi's directorial approach strikes as kinda arthouse at times, something that, I think, clashes with the suspense he is elsewhere trying to create, the plot being too bare to withstand that antithesis.
