Review of The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain (1995) by Cynthia H — 22 Oct 2007
It's a way back since I saw this now, and it seems to have disappeared from sight. Still, when it came out it was a pleasantly distracting film about group of Welsh who pile stuff on top of their hill until it is tall enough to be classed as a mountain. It's often regarded as being based on some sort of true story, but, alas, I think the whole thing is bunkum (though I'd so love it to be true!).
Since the film has cast Hugh Grant as the eponymous hero, there's no prizes for guessing the story also involves romance. And even if his name didn't fly like a yellow flag on the shipping lanes of drama (it's okay, I don't know what I mean either), the poster's a dead give away.
All-in-all a humorous enough affair, with a couple of pointed observations that are worth watching it for (like the names of all the locals listed at the beginning).
