This movie is about love and memory. In the end, that is the human condition summed up, is it not? Striving to portray love in all its forms, from the unbearable heat of passion to the love of friends and comrades, it succeeds in this ambitious undertaking better than any other film I have ever seen.
It is a masterpiece. Fortunately conceived and brilliantly executed, The English Patient is Anthony Minghella's best film, and features brilliant performances by a host of great actors, including possibly the best role ever played by Kirsten Scott Thomas.
There are scenes in this movie that will tear at your heart, and images in it that you will never forget.
