Review of The English Patient (1996) by Antony G — 11 Oct 2011
Set during the end of the Second World War a Canadian Nurse takes care of a patient who suffers from terrible burns received from a plane crash. The patient has no Identification & no memory of who he is & is only known as The English Patient due to his accent. She decides to look after him in an abandoned monastery, after they are forced to move from a field hospital after an attack, due to his fragile condition. During the stay the nurse soon starts to piece together his recent past from sketchy memories he starts to recall. He turns out to be a explorer of Hungarian nobility who mapped North Africa for the British Government & his story is full of love & betrayal of his friend as well as betraying his allies after his quest to return to his stranded lover is thwarted by the British Army believing he is a Nazi.
I'm glad I gave this movie a chance as it was rather dull & boring but as the pieces started to fall into place & the story unfolds it drags you in.
