Review of The Endless (2017) by Mandy B — 23 Jul 2018
THE ENDLESS- 78%.
A mind-bending mystery which could have been much better.
I always appreciate directors and storytellers that go the extra mile to make something original and creative. The endless carried a very intriguing idea but failed to make me gobssmashed by the end of it. I understand that this was a low budget indie movie, and for that reason, I won't focus too much on the cheap GCI effects.
I just did not see too much character development. I realized that the story is also quite surrounded by metaphors.
***SPOILERS***.
In the end, the brothers finally fix the problem they always had and could escape the loop. Were all these men who are still there in a loop because they have not overcome what they want to?
You have the girl who is looking for her husband, the magician who wants to master magic, the leader who wants to understand the problem, the beer brewer which is obsessed with making the perfect beer, the drug addicts... As all of these scenarios were brilliantly put together and shown in this 2-hour span, I still believe more could have been done with the story structure.
Story Wise and execution: 3/3.5.
Acting: 1.9/2.5.
Camera Work: 1/2.
Sound: 1.9/2.
Overall Score: 3.9/5.
