Review of The Emperor's Club (2002) by Kristin S — 13 Jul 2011
Although Kevin Kline's performance here is truly inspired, the movie itself was rather uninspired at times. Once the off-voice says something about the story having no suprises - and that was when I totally agreed. The plot just unfolds itself bit by bit without any suprises and I was a bot bored watching, despite usually loving private school movies like this ("Dead Poets Society" being my favourite movie of all time).
I don't know - maybe it's that the main characters both were flawed and you just wanted to give them a good kick. The teacher for being so naive and idealistic all the time, the free-spirited student for being such an idiot most of the time.
Still, somehow okay movie, mostly due to decent actor performances.
