Review of The Elephant Man (1980) by Private U — 18 Mar 2009
I read John Merrick's life story as a young slip of a lad before actually seeing this film, the book was absolutely compelling! but the film in most aspects is a more than adequate visual representation of John's remarkable, yet tragic life.
the all star cast lead by the amazing John Hurt carry this film to the heights that such an emotional story needs to be portrayed from. In the final scene when John decides to take his pillow away and effectively end his own life by doing what we all take for granted - sleeping peacefully in our own bed.
...i cried my eyes out seeing this film as a 9 year old and it's still hard not to shed a tear watching it now.
