Review of The Elephant Man (1980) by Sanjid P — 01 Sep 2009
A total heart wrenching real life story (though bit altered) of an Englishman named John (/Joseph) Merrick who become known as The ELEPHANT MAN because of his deformed physical appearance. Lynch masterfully put us on a heavy emotional journey that takes you get inside the man and his tortured existence.
An uniquely unforgettable masterpiece that makes you truly sorry but doesn't actually care for your blind pity. The film asks for your respect, not cry for Merrick. But eventually it's very hard to resist yourself from doing that.
One of the greatest lines comes when Merrick's fellow "freaks" in the circus help him escape and said "Good luck, my friend. And who needs it more than us?" A must see for everyone to let know & see the deformed face of 'humanity' in our cruel ugly world.
