Lynchs precursor to the straight story, this is a film based on a true story about a man who was hideously deformed in the mid 19th century and the doctor who helped him. while it has a few of the classic lynch touches, its not a film thats about large ideas.
its simply a story of human goodness and cruelty in the face of an extraordinary situation. john hurts performance is excellent. everything else is window dressing. nice window dressing, but not much else.
