Review of The Elephant Man (1980) by Eddie G — 24 Mar 2012
Watched THE ELEPHANT MAN! One of David Lynch's masterpiece is what this movie should be called! Several reasons why this movie should be watched and why it should be called a masterpiece! Portraying a real life tragedy in a beautiful way by Mr.
Lynch is one of the superior reason to it. David Lynch keeps it simple in this early movie by him unlike his modern movies which are mostly psychological thrillers! This without any doubt is one of his finest! Coming to the performances, we have the versatile Anthony Hopkins in the movie and i'd say honestly, I feel this is his one of the best performance ever.
His expressions and timing is perfect. John Hurt who plays "The Elephant Man" does equally good. Although we dont get to look at his original face throughout the movie, but he justifies the role perfectly.
The makeup of "the elephant man" is amazing! It would have been terrifying and astonishing for the viewers back then in the 80s! Too heart wrenching and heart breaking (in an emotional way) with soulful script, direction and performances! One of the best emotional drama we have ever had!
