Review of The Elephant Man (1980) by Angel G — 02 Jul 2012
Outstanding performances by Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt, David Lynch is a genius, it has one of the most abusive and dirty characters in film history and talks about how people don't accept how someone looks, instead they bully him and make him feel like his (The Elephant Man) not a part of life.
It's a very sad film, but interesting, plus it just shows how kids these days in school treat others with no respect, those are the bullies. The cinematography, the music, the performances, everything was just great, and it features one of the best quotes in movie history: " I am not an animal! I am a HUMAN BEING! I.
...am..a man!" It is a devastating quote and I think its the best about trying to stand out and tell the world that he is not something to be used. And the message in this movie is beautiful, because everybody is beautiful the way they are and Anne Bancroft has the most charming way of saying to John Hurt's character: "Your no Elephant Man John.
..you are Romeo". Its a sad but amazing film about trying to be a real human and becoming something beautiful, but whats beautiful is your heart and your personality, not your face, and most people today think its your face but their obviously blinded, so I think this movie is an outstanding piece of art and its realistic things in this movie just make it better.
