Review of The Edge of Love (2008) by Settimio P — 25 Jun 2008
Hhmmm...I disagree this is better than Atonement as it did not seem to gain momentuum and achieve the same emotional power both in the chamber scenes nor in the war scenes...nonetheless I like the leads, Keira Knightley looked very glamourous and I was convinced by Sienna Miller.
My only problem with the film and I was quite bothered by it was the portrayal of Dylan Thomas, which seemed quite detrimental and took away a lot of the mystique from his figure of artist, no doubt he might have been so petty and parassitical in real life, but liking his poetry I though it was a bit unfair to give such an account given that most of the story is anyway based on facts rather than reporting them faithfully.
What's the point of calling him Dylan Thomas any way? His name could have been changed for the sake of anonymity, though thinly veiled. The women are central characters here, they are strong, resolute, outspoken and carry the story, post-feminism Knightley-style is still o.
K. to me but can get a bit repetitive.
