Review of The Edge of Love (2008) by Lindsay C — 03 Jul 2008
Bit ambivalent about this one. I think a temporary rise in the popularity of tea dresses, chunky knitwear and wellies is likely to be the main legacy of this film. It was watchable and interesting but although it's supposed to be about two 'feisty free-spirited women' and their complex relationship with charismatic genius Dylan Thomas, I felt the female leads came across as confused and needy rather than strong women and Jonathon Rhys (who I love in Brothers and sisters) struggles to convey the charisma which was supposedly at the core of the love triangle.
The Thomas's reputedly had a dark, complex and well-matched relationship but somehow the movie lacked the substance to really convey it. Sienna Miller reprises the same messed up character she played in the Alfie remake.
Keira Knightly does a good Welsh accent though.
