Review of The Edge of Love (2008) by Samoa G — 26 Sep 2010
I liked it. I think. The actors were all very good (though I don't think I'll EVER warm to Keira Knightley)- Cillian Murphy and Matthew Rhys especially. The problem, I think, lay in the fact that Dylan Thomas was so incredibly unlikeable.
I really hated him (despite how beautiful his poetry was), and I highly doubt the actual poet was anywhere near as horrid. Him being so ghastly meant that the two female leads came off looking like total fucking idiots.
How could any woman warm to someone like that- let alone betray their incredibly good looking, soldier-at-war husband with them? There were lots of nice things about the film though. The clothes, the sets, locations, some of the dialogue is great- and I did believe the friendship between Vera and Caitlin.
