Review of The Edge (1997) by Matthew P — 04 Jun 2012
If "Lost in the wilderness Movies" were capable of developing a cult following, this movie would have one. The plot is simple, yet the performances of the characters make this movie unforgettable.
Stranded after a plane crash in the Alaskan wilderness, Hopkins and Baldwin wage a psychological battle against one another and an elusive bear which haunts them throughout the film. Filled with themes of jealousy, betrayal, and survival, Hopkins shows why he is regarded as one of the greatest actors of our time, with an equally effective performance by Baldwin.
While made in 1997, the edge feels more like a suspenseful thriller from an earlier day. Cleverly directed, well scored, and skillfully acted, The Edge provides suspense in an unusual setting that pits man against nature-and themselves.
