Review of The Dyatlov Pass Incident (2013) by Bill R — 26 Dec 2013
Surprisingly well made for a found footage film. Much like Chernobyl Diaries, theft lam struggles with cliches during its opening 15 minutes, but does well in establishing the remote setting of the Urals and in building tension as to what is causing the incidents in Dyatlov.
The scenes up to the avalanche are thoroughly gripping, only to descend into absurdity in the closing 35 minutes with concerns of hypothermia non-existent despite the characters' lack of gear, mutants, bunkers, time travel and the meshing of countless conspiracy theories into one.
Rather than continuing to allow the imagination of the viewers to solve this mystery, the decision to try and explain it outright does far more harm than good to this one.
