Review of The Dukes of Hazzard (2005) by Adam B — 21 Feb 2009
A down home Southern 1980s TV series gets turned into a pile of pig squat in this here retelling on the silver screen. Burt Reynolds is completely miscast as Boss Hogg. He's not that fat. He's not bald (with that toupee).
He's not Hogg. (Ron Jeremy would have done it, or even dom De Luise). Maybe he should have played Rosco instead of that other boy. Uncle Jessie is NOT Willie Nelson. He's maybe a cousin or something.
Yep. How about they get George Clooney or billy bob Thornton for that role? That would have kind of made sense. But it gets worse. The Duke Boys, going off with their fast General Lee 1969 Dodge Charger to find out about the swamp stuff so they can get the farm back, and win the race, well they just aren't right.
Johnny Knoxville's a little too old, and too much himself, and Sean Thomas is just not right neither. Then ya got Daisy Duke, who is played by that really skinny-as-a-weed Jessica Simpson, who can't do a southern accent.
That lady might be eye candy, but she is NOT Daisy. (And no, she's not DD even with those fixed up Hollywood protruberences). Maybe she's Bo's daughter, if he had one, that is the Bo from the first show.
But they never said that. Nope, Broken Lizard should not have been trusted with this one. It is a stinker. Yee haw! It's like when every time they jumped the General in the show, it really crashed and broke all to pieces.
Well this movie is like that. Y'all come back now and see the show, ya hear. Don't bother with this.
