Review of The DUFF (2015) by Alma V — 30 Jul 2015
Okay... first of all I need to say that I am one of those persons who want the movie to be as loyal to the book as possible, so... I know this point of view won't be the same for all people.
I watched this movie before reading the book (which I don't usually do). It wasn't as good as I expected, but I still liked it. I remember I started reading the book with the hope of finding out what was behind Wesley's parents fights, and as long as I read the book I found out that the movie was completely different. This only made me think that the people behind this movie tried to make it... kind of a new Mean Girls movie. They didn't show all the deep stuff that the book handled. The characters were very different, as well as their relationships.
What comes into my mind regarding this is that adding most of the details to the movie would've made it kind of long and complicated. Maybe that's why they choose to make it funnier. I think it worked as an entretaining movie, but it could've been better and more original.
What I can't deny is that the actors do a good job :).
