Review of The Duellists (1977) by Tom M — 15 Aug 2007
A near perfect film. Each of the duels that punctuate the story is individual and striking. The acting is sublime and the scenes and costumes are as good as anything in a French historical film (and that is really saying something).
The whole thing is a study of honour, death and character. It builds towards a brilliant (anti-) climax. Just fantastic beyond words. A dvd that I can stick on anytime and still enjoy.
