Review of The Duellists (1977) by Nikolai G — 22 Oct 2007
There are, no doubt, many reasons one might call this movie one of his favourite. Scott's early work was straightforward, frank toward the viewer, respectful towards Conrad, whose short story "The Point of Honor" was adapted here.
The portrayal of the age is historically quite accurate, the fighting - severe and non-stage-like , the characters interesting, and even though very lightly sketched, at the same time deep. Totally non-Hollywood!
