Review of The Duellists (1977) by Gabriella P — 03 Dec 2011
A beautifully shot film from Ridley Scott that almost seems to be one of his forgotten films, there seems to be this assumption that his feature film career started with Alien 2 years later, I would highly recommend that anyone who has not seen this film tracks it down.
Yes the plot is slight, Carradine and Keitel spend the entire film engaged in duels at various points of the Napoleonic wars with Carradine prepared to walk away but constantly pursued by Keitel who will not let a simple incident lie.
This shouldn't have been as gripping as it is but that must be put down to the skill of the actors and Scott who shows how much of an eye for detail he has.
