Review of The Drop (2014) by Thejakeberlin — 18 Sep 2014
While everyone was great, this was Tom Hardy's show all along. You're led to believe that Bob Saginowski may be a simpleton, but he is far from that as Hardy is phenomenal with adding many layers to the character. A man who looks like a thug, but has a heart of gold. As the tension comes to a high in the final act, Hardy's characters big moment comes in the climax where he flat-out delivers, taking the film to a new level. That scene alone makes it worth watching.
The Drop ins't a shining standout, but it's still a completely solid film. The filmmaker does extremely well at giving a strong character driven drama that is rarely ever seen in the world of hardcore gangsters. And with the always brilliant Tom Hardy in the lead and it being James Gandolfini's last performance, this is definitely one worth checking out.
