Review of The Drop (2006) by David T — 28 Sep 2014
Eh... Seemed a bit confusing. The plot and cast had the makings of a great film: A dark, seedy New York backdrop, with James Gandolfini in another (and presumably last) posthumous role. I wanted to really like this movie, but couldn't really follow all the plot twists.
I understand there's an element of surprise and unexpected turns, but (without giving too much away) there just seemed to be too many loose ends. Why is this happening? Does it have some metaphorical meaning? Who REALLY killed who? Is there an underlying meaning with this occurrence? By the end, I was left with some unanswered questions.
Thought about 2.5 stars, but that seems sort of disrespectful, especially since this film had great caliber. Was intrigued by the 85% user and 89% critic ratings, but just can't bring myself to rate this high.
Good premise, just felt that more could've been done.
