Review of The Dressmaker (2015) by Bill C — 14 Mar 2017
Magnificent rabbit-hole black comedy.
If you can't like this, you're probably quite normal - and boring by half. Every moment of this film offers us a rare and nuanced glimpse of the cultural frontier of the fifties. By what miracle did "Ballad of a Teenage Queen" and Léo Delibes' "Lakmé" find their way to the Australian outback? As a western Canadian, I am fondly and possessively reminded of W.O.Mitchell's "Who Has Seen the Wind".
Kate Winslet is reliably fabulous !
