Review of The Dressmaker (2015) by Bianca G — 14 Apr 2017
Aussies will appreciate this film more so than foreigners: a stellar cast and excellent scenery, set dressing and gorgeous costuming. There's a real Australianness to the storytelling. There were several excellent themes and plot points but much like stuffing excess flesh into a finely tailored corset, too much story matter was shoved & laced into the film.
The film went from a leisurely pace told with skill & feeling and could have ended satisfactorily 3/4 into it....but then the director & scriptwriter went a little haywire and the storytelling became farcical and I started to feel disappointed at how nonsensical it started to feel which was such a shame because I mean, come on.
.. Look at the cast list -very high quality performers all round. The film is worth the viewing but go into it with an open mind, Aussies like to be creative and sometimes shocking with their storytelling & The Dressmaker is a yarn spun a little too long so it ravelled off the spool.
