Review of The Double Life of Véronique (1991) by Starman V — 09 Feb 2008
Beautifully filmed, and starring a beautiful actress whom it is difficult not to be charmed by, I still have to point out a huge flaw in this movie: It's totally dated, in a weird, not really it's fault kind of way.
The greenish/yellow tint to the movie was liberally ripped off all throughout the 90s (namely Amelie borrows A LOT from the look and feel of this movie, but is of course populist where this is more artsy and even mystical).
So it feels like a 90s euro-art film... I suppose that's not such a crime, but it somehow did not feel as timeless or powerful as Kieslowski's next project, the Three Colors Trilogy.
