Review of The Double Life of Véronique (1991) by James L — 22 Feb 2009

[font=Courier New][size=3]Story: Two girls who look the same, have similar talents and whose lives seem to follow the same script. One lives in Poland, the other in France. They also seem to sense what's happening to the other, even though they don't know about the existence of the other. [/size][/font].

[font=Courier New][size=3]The music. I'm not a fan of opera, but the soprano who has sung for the movie has done a wonderful job. Very haunting tunes, whether sung or played. [/size][/font].

[font=Courier New][size=3]Irene Jacob. She looks awesome, and has given a wonderful performance. She carries the movie on her shoulders. [/size][/font].

[font=Courier New][size=3]The puppet show. Beautiful movements, lovely effects, and they manage to look lifelike too. [/size][/font].

[font=Courier New][size=3]There's a lot of skin on show in this movie and I'd rather not see it. It almost made me stop watching. [/size][/font].

[font=Courier New][size=3]It was ambiguous, a little too much so. Maybe reading about the movie before watching it wasn't a good idea, as I was expecting things to happen that didn't take place until well into the movie. Maybe a second viewing will make a better impression (if I ever see it again, that is). [/size][/font].

[font=Courier New][size=3]Some great camera angles, and cinematography. The clues-leading-to-coffee-shop part was reminescent of 'Amelie' but somehow doesn't impress here. Where 'Amelie' was light-hearted fun, there's a slight stalker vibe in this one. [/size][/font].
