Review of The Double Life of Véronique (1991) by Alan M — 18 Nov 2009
The Double Life of Véronique is perhaps the most truly poetic film I have seen. It deals not in simple plot and meaning, but in emotion and feeling - carried by Krzystztof Kieslowski's direction, SÅ?awomir Idziak's beautiful cinematography, and Zbigniew Preisner's soul-piercing music.
The film's intent is not explanation, surely - nor is it mystification, I think - but instead to capture a feeling that can not be adequately expressed in words. It does so - successfully, to my mind - with extraordinary grace and subtlety. Truly a unique experience, and one of Kieslowski's greatest films.
