Review of The Double Life of Véronique (1991) by Kevin N — 11 Oct 2010
Poetic vagueness, like a series of unfinished thoughts and weightless theories that just feel right to some visceral part of us. Kieslowski, the man of a million colors, absolutely drenches each and every frame with explosive color and causes us to naturally re-feel the emotions we first raise instinctively.
A phenomenal performance by Irene Jacob fills both Weronika and Veronique with a passion that is never told but always shown. During the film I actually felt myself shutting down and giving in to the images on screen as if they had some kind of hypnotic power.
It's a unique experience and a visual wonder.
