Review of The Double (2014) by Josh O — 28 Nov 2014
Richard Ayoade latest film is based on the Dostoyevsky novel of the same name and plays like Brazil meets Eraserhead with a dose of Kafka. Though it strays from the source material it's because it's trying to be its own thing and what is is a trippy and enjoyable black comedy.
It's gorgeously shot and beautifully scored with a fantastic dual performance from Jesse Eisenberg. The rest of the cast is solid with Mia Wasikowska being as lovely as always. Though its slightly pretentious and not for everyone I had a really good time with this film.
