Review of The Door in the Floor (2004) by Frankie A — 28 Dec 2007
(spoiler alert) Its a downer --- a film about losing two children in a car accident .... Without Jeff Bridges this film based on a John Irving novel would stink. Example; Kim Basinger looks like her whole face has been botoxed frozen, and despite getting amazing scenes and lines to work with, eg. where she discovers Eddie's infatuation then seduces him, she maintains the same pained look throughout.
You get to like Jeff Bridges character - he is a pompous scoundrel but he is the more resilient parent to a scene-stealing Elle Fanning and he sort of sticks it out in his marriage despite great tragedy (he asks for a short-term separation but I think that is to get his wife laid - to try and make her happy) He is exactly what he says he is - "an entertainer of children who likes to draw" Worth it to see Jeff Bridges.
