Review of The Door in the Floor (2004) by Davis B — 29 Nov 2008
Ho hum. Cider House Rules is the only good adaptation of a John Irving novel anyone's managed yet. Too much happens in them. Their approach to that problem in this film was to restrict themselves to about the first 1/4 of the book.
The problem with this is that the MAIN CHARACTER of the book ("A Widow For One Year"), is the young daughter in this part of the story. And she truly was the reason for Irving's story. So that essentially makes this a prologue to nothing.
No real point to this film.
