Review of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) by Katha R — 19 Nov 2010
Inspiring and heart-wrenching at the same time, the true story of J-D Bauby who suffers a stroke which leaves him completely paralysed and unable to communicate (but not in an autistic way....) except with the movement of one eye.
He ends up dictating his memoirs about his life, the clinical "locked-in syndrome" and his thoughts on it all to his speech therapist. The director did an amazing job with this film as the story is truly told from the 'speechless' patient's perspective including his wicked sense of humour.
The book itself must be amazing to read, I'll definitely look out for it.
