Review of The Disaster Artist (2017) by Daryl L — 20 Feb 2018
A movie about a movie, yep you heard that right. It's a shame this wasn't released in Singapore considering it's fared better critically than some of the movies the would be distributor here decided to prioritise over this.
Not to mention it's more enjoyable than a few of the Best Picture nominees this year. (I'm looking at you The Post and Darkest Hour, which are good but not that great, although Gary Oldman's performance was indeed great) This is not a parody of The Room (i.
E. one of the worst films ever made to the point that it's hilarious), but explores the making of that movie, including the feelings and conflicts the makers and actors faced. Say what you want about him and the sexual misconduct accusations about him, but James Franco does a great job with his role as Tommy Wiseau, as is his brother who acts as Wiseau's best friend, Greg Sestero.
It's also a movie with more heart than you'd expect from a Seth Rogen co-produced film. Check this one out, but make sure you learn more about The Room first before watching.
