Review of The Dirty Dozen (1967) by Jason C — 14 May 2010
Great cast and they all perform well. Marvin of course runs the show. I particularly liked John Cassavetes as the rebel Franco and Telly Savalis as a right wing nutjob homosexual. Yeah, you read it right.
Unfortunately the film has some tonal errors, trying to hard to be funny for long stretches of time. The final mission is cool though. Aldrich doesn't move the camera a whole lot but this movie is cut relentlessly.
I think I read somewhere that the average shot length was something like 3.5 seconds and I believe it. It's a little intense at first but once you settle into it it really adds to the overall affect of the movie, which generally pretty brutal.
