Review of The Dilemma (2011) by Sarah O — 01 Oct 2011
My how Ron Howard has fallen. Not the worst concept but geez what a mess. Not funny, not dramatic. Just an idea taken way too far over far too long a period.
Not much to say, but Vaughn often plays a similar character. It's great when the movie calls for that character. He's brilliant in Made and Swingers, but not in this. The only other comment is about Channing Tatum. Maybe his best character so far because he pulls off a douchebag really well. He still can't act but there wasn't much acting necessary for that character.
So how convenient all the backstory and yadda yadda. If this was good storytelling, it wouldn't need all the little contrivances to drag the story out for nearly two hours. But it's a major production, and a Ron Howard film, so I'm sure it need to go for about two hours. Thus all the little unbelievable nonsense that makes for a pretty lousy movie.
