Review of The Dictator (2012) by Jamie E — 07 Nov 2013
While it fails at being provactive or shocking, The Dictator is still a very funny film. It's concept is orginal and the dialogue is very clever and and comedic but does not hold the films story back.
That is until the second half. The first half of this film is boasts a unique outrageousley funny script. But the second fails creatively. The pacing is inconsistent and and the story becomes unimaginative and highly predictable.
Even the numerous cameos, which have been very well added, can not save this film from becoming just another comedy. Sacha Bahon Cohen does his job brilliantly as does Ben Kingsley. Cohen's character has good character devlopment which begins to show in the end but in all in the second half he feels unorginal and boring.
If this film was able to continue as it began then it would be a worthy spirtual sequel to Bruno and Borat but under this strain and pressure it falls.
