Review of The Dictator (2012) by Erin M — 01 Sep 2018
The film was funny, and had many great ideas going for it, the opening scenes were done perfectly and the first act was a great set-up that seemed as if it would be leading up to a fun and unique comedy.
However, when the film progressed, we saw nothing new happening, the characters seemed all over the place and there were many confusing elements that just made the plot so much more complicated. When going to the ending sequence, I felt a sense of catharsis, as it seemed as if the film was going back to its original idea.
Comparing the beginning and ending, the characters have grown and the film seemed like it was delivered nicely. However, with the middle acts being such a mess, it is hard to forget how the execution of this idea went terribly wrong.
