Review of The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) by Katie E — 27 May 2007
This was a dark movie, yet one that wasn?t too horribly depressing and sad. It worked on many different levels, and the layering of conflicts was a perfect touch. There were internal conflicts within each character, man-to-man conflicts in the loft, and the external conflict of the war.
I loved the ominous signals of the Nazis, i.e., the blaring siren, the tap of their boots, and the ?Heil Hitler? chants. The scenes between Anne and Peter were tender and adequately conveyed adolescence?s confusion and awkwardness.
The story flowed naturally and was believable. Overall, this was a stunning masterpiece and warrants several viewings!
