Review of The Devil's Rejects (2005) by Craig S — 16 Dec 2009
Rob Zombie's very own Manson Family! This is a grittier, more original and less colorful sequel to "House of 1,000 Corpses" taking place in time where the last film left off. Although the plot is a continuation of the first film The Devil's Rejects is more in its own element with a thicker story and a chance to really get to know the characters.
The story starts off at the Fireflys' Farm which in the first movie actually looked more like a house. John Quincy Wydell (Forsythe) leads a search and destroy mission to capture the Firefly family.
Although he manages to kill one and capture another (Mother Firefly) three of the families' most dangerous members are on the run, relying on each other the entire way and leaving body after body behind them on their trail.
Sheriff Wydell learns that the family was responsible for his brothers' death and decides to deliver his own justice to the family. This is what makes the movie so interesting in my opinion. Although our killers are loveable by means of entertaining us they are still killers who've commited horrible acts.
Sheriff Wydell's mission as a man of the law to capture them is commendable until... he lets his vengeance make him and his enemies one in the same. It's twisted but because our killers in this movie are a family you may find yourself siding for them and justifying their actions when the sheriff is concerned.
In my honest opinion I thought this was the best film Rob Zombie has ever done and this film happens to have a kick ass finale! Also, I LOVE that the killers are named after Marx Brothers characters!
