Review of The Devil's Rejects (2005) by Russ V — 23 May 2014
Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects is a great follow up to his directing debut House of 1000 Corpses. One thing that Rob Zombie does in some of his films that I find interesting is how he makes you sympathize the bad guys.
He takes the antagonists of House of 1000 Corpses, and while they are still very bad people who deserve to be taken down, he makes feel almost like protaganists, and they get hunted down by a sheriff who's brother they killed in the first movie.
Now this is where my main problem with the movie comes from. The sheriff spends the whole movie trying too hard to be a bad ass, which makes him come off as a little annoying. And another thing that kind of bugs me about The Devil's Rejects, which isn't saying anything bad about it, is why this is classified/marketed as a horror movie.
During the course of this movie, there was only one seen that made it feel like a horror movie, and that is at the end when the sheriff is chasing Baby(Sheri Moon Zombie's character) through a ranch.
If it wasn't for the fact that this is the sequel to House of 1000 Corpses, I think The Devil's Rejects would be classified as a thriller.
